Who we are
True North Technologies Limited (company number 562612; registered office Suite A2, No. 1 Charlotte Quay, Limerick, V94 TW5E), of Unit 4, Kilsheelan House, Shannon, Co. Clare, V14 PP66, Ireland, is responsible for your personal data in GrasslandTools and our phone apps. For anything about your data, email info@moregrass.ie or ring +353 61 708 423. What we collect and why

The Grasshopper and WeighRite apps don't use accounts: they send your farm or herd file to us under its farm or herd ID, and that ID is what links the records to you. To have those records removed, ask us.
We don't sell your data and don't use it for advertising. There is no advertising in GrasslandTools or our apps.
Who can see your farm
- You, and the people you bring onto it: your farm team, farm workers, advisors and contractors, each seeing what you allow. You can remove them at any time.
- Our staff, only to support you or fix a problem. When a staff member looks at GrasslandTools as you, we keep a record of it.
Grass growth figures and leaderboards
- Regional growth. We combine grass growth from farms in your area into a regional figure (the middle value across at least five farms), used to help every farm plan. No single farm can be picked out of it.
- Leaderboards. Farms with enough grazing paddocks appear on our public leaderboards under an anonymous ID and their county, with their grazing score. If you give your farm a name to show, that name appears instead. Nothing else about you is shown.
- We do both in our legitimate interest in improving grass management for our users. If you don't want your farm included, tell us and we'll leave it out: you don't need an account to ask.
- We may contact leading farms about their results. Every such email has a link to stop them.
Services you connect
When you connect or upload to another service, we send it what's needed, and nothing until you do:
- PastureBase Ireland (Teagasc): your herd number, paddock names, areas and covers.
- AgriNet: your AgriNet login and your covers. We store your AgriNet password encrypted.
- ICBF: animal tags, dates and weights, once you've linked your ICBF account.
- ONPH (France): your farm map and measurements, if you choose to share with them.
- Fodgan: a summary of your farm, if you've linked it.
Companies that work for us
- DigitalOcean: hosting and storage, in Amsterdam.
- Mailgun: our emails, from its EU servers.
- Stripe, Apple and Google: subscription payments.
- Google Maps and Esri: map images and place search. When a map loads, they see the area being shown.
- OpenStreetMap services: address search, and roads and buildings on printed maps.
- Google Firebase: e-gate alerts to your phone.
- 1NCE: the mobile connection inside each e-gate.
- Sentry: error reports from our older servers, so we can fix faults.
- Better Stack and Papertrail: our technical logs, so we can look into problems you report.
- For farms in England, the Environment Agency is asked whether the farm's location is in a nitrate vulnerable zone.
Where one of these handles data outside the European Economic Area, it does so under the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
On your phone
- Location: the GrasslandTools app uses it while you map or measure, and the Grasshopper app records it with each reading. On Android 11 and older, the E-gate and WeighRite apps have to ask for it to find Bluetooth devices, and don't read it. None of the apps track you in the background.
- Bluetooth: to connect to your Grasshopper, WeighRite, tag reader or e-gate.
- Camera (E-gate app): to scan an invitation code. Notifications: gate alerts. Local network (E-gate app): to find a weather station.
- The apps keep your recent work on the phone so they work without signal. Signing in as someone else clears it.
Emails
We email you about your account, your subscription, your devices and the farms you share. We send news about GrasslandTools only to customers, about things like it, and every such email has a link to stop them.
Cookies
GrasslandTools uses only cookies it needs to work: to keep you signed in (AuthToken), protect forms (_csrf), and remember your language, units, recent farms and where you were. No advertising or tracking cookies. We count page visits without cookies and without anything that identifies you. Google's map service may set its own cookies when a map loads.
How long we keep it
- Your account and farm records: while your account is open.
- After you delete your account: kept so it can be restored if the deletion was a mistake, until you ask us to erase them, which we do within a month.
- Payments and invoices: at least six years, as Irish tax law requires.
- Demo farms from our website: deleted after 30 days unless you keep one.
- Copies of data sent to us by the apps, kept to diagnose faults: 90 days.
- Technical logs: 3 days for GrasslandTools; 12 months for our older servers, which the Grasshopper and WeighRite apps use, so we can look into problems you report. Backups: 7 days.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, to correct it, to erase it, to restrict or object to how we use it (including being left out of growth figures and leaderboards), or to have it sent to you or someone else. Email us and we'll reply within a month. You can complain to the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).
Changes
We'll update this notice when what we do changes, change the date at the top, and email you about anything significant.
